    Asharqia Chamber held a monthly meeting for the business sector, which hosted the Director General of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Captain Fahd bin Ahmed Al-Amer, in the presence of the Chamber’s President, Badr bin Sulaiman Al-Raziza, on Tuesday evening, September 6, 2022, at the Chamber’s headquarters in Dammam.

    During the meeting, which witnessed a remarkable presence from the business sector and those interested, Al-Amer stressed the port's keenness on cooperation with the business sector in the region, pointing to the various investment opportunities witnessed by the port, which will be a fertile field for strengthening cooperation with the sector.

    Al-Amer said during the meeting, which was attended by members of the Board of Directors, Badr bin Muhammad Al-Abdulkarim and Muhammad bin Ali Al-Majdouie, and managed by the Acting Secretary-General Khalid bin Ghazi Al-Otaibi, that the port is witnessing several development projects worth more than 547 million riyals, most notably: the modernization and development of electrical network systems for voltage The medium and low-lying areas of Dammam Port (Phase I), the project to complete and expand it, develop infrastructure facilities to feed new buildings with electricity, deepen the basin of the two western bulk cargo berths, in addition to the project to link the new power plant and power receiving station (115 kV), and supply and install backup generators. at the port.​

    On the port’s achievements, Al-Amer explained that the efforts of the recently formed working team to develop work in the port culminated in successive achievements that contributed to raising the level of performance, as King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam recorded a record number of handling more than (18) thousand TEUs for one ship The month of August of this year set a new record in container handling, which is the largest in the history of the port, handling nearly (200) thousand TEUs.​

    The port also witnessed the signing of an agreement to manufacture the latest technical coastal cranes to receive huge ships, as well as the launch of the Smart Ports initiative by the General Ports Authority, and the signing of memoranda to transform it into a smart port using 5G technologies, in addition to the signing of an agreement to establish a regional logistics center with one of the companies on an area Exceeding (81) thousand square meters, with an investment value exceeding (100) million riyals.

    Al-Amer indicated that as part of the port’s endeavors to facilitate the movement of maritime freight, a new shipping service has been added to serve exporters and importers, through a company for the ports of Shanghai and Singapore, to the direct shipping service (GCS), which links China with the Arabian Gulf region.​​​​
